FIRST SEMESTER: AT A GLANCE

Am I the same person as I was a year ago? I often ask to myself and realize that time has brought a lot of changes in my life. Believing that time has power to change everything I rely upon it and wait until time compels me to make something good happen. Now, as I look back to my life it reflects me the image of a person that I have left far behind. Nevertheless, with deep thoughts I overcame with all my mistakes in past and look forward to nourish my future with hard study, labour and dedication in this semester.
Having a mixed feeling on first day, I tried to act normal hiding my emotions and excitement under my face. In the very first day of my 3rd semester, I was introduced to my core module for this semester. Each and every module was very new to us but rather much more inspiring. Every coursework that we were assigned changed my academic skills from each and every aspect. From the first coursework we were very serious in regarding our performance, so we tried very hard to give all our effort in this coursework. However, some of the coursework assigned to us were very difficult to work them out. Due to high difficulty level, we all students along with our teacher too felt a little tough to understand and complete the coursework.Nonetheless, our hard labour and dedication towards the study and a helpful hand from our teacher, we finally were able to complete all of the allocated coursework within deadline.

The four modules have helped to uplift my skills from basic to intermediate level. The first module, Study Skills for Computing, was a complete source of understanding the writing skills and presentation skills. Also, it helped us to prepare future plan to uplift our career in better way. It showed us the way to achieve our goal in our life by helping us in preparing action plans. Moreover, it gave us an idea of using blogs for sharing our ideas and thoughts to this world. The second module, Introduction to Programming, has helped to gain basic programming skills through Java. In this module, we learnt various aspects of programming, developing logic and writing codes for a program. We also studied about BlueJ application for simplifying the coding, compiling and running process of Java. Moving onto next module, Logic, helped to gain and improve my mathematical skills. This module also aided me to develop logic skills that eventually benefited to create logics for programming. Moreover, it made me understand the basic theorem of mathematics for application in programming sector. Furthermore the last module, Problem Solving for IT, has assisted me to understand and develop a nature of solving various types of problems in a better and comprehensible way. Also, this module has made me to gain basic ideas for using MS-EXCEL and MS-ACCESS. So, this all four modules combined has been a sea of knowledge where my skills, ideas and thoughts all are lifted up in a better and lucid way.

During my semester I came up with many difficulties in dealing with subject matter. I often got confused when new task was assigned to us. However, I frequently asked my module leaders and tutors to deal with problems that I came up with. Their feedbacks have really helped me in clarifying my confusion towards each and every task. Moreover, those feedbacks have built up my confidence level and understand the different ways to tackle a problem. I also understood the importance of team work and contribution of individual team member in the team work for better outcome. So this was a life lesson that I have learnt in this semester.

Summing up, this semester at Islington has helped me to develop my academic skills in studying, presenting as well as sharing my ideas and thoughts clearly. Now, I see myself in a position where my academic skills have been lift up. Now I feel more comfortable in sharing my ideas and expressing feelings. An upgrade in my academic skills has helped my confidence to rise up and this makes academic life at Islington different than in others.

Action Plan

Start to improve our weakness is another step to our bright future. Following this line, I have some weakness too which I need to improve and I am going to explain it.

Let’sbegin with programming, there’s different programming language but I don’t need to worry about them except java. Now my main aim for improving my programming is by making myself familiar with java code and I am going to do it by reading different books, watching different tutorials, discuss with friends and more importantly practice it a lot.

Mynext weakness is speaking skills. No one in the world can be a successful person without speaking skills, so am I. Not just for my course but for my future too, I need to figure it out. First thing I want to do is taking speaking class, reading more books than I do usually, interact with more people and participating in more events which includes presentation. I might not be able to do my best at the first but I will in second times.

Decision making is another weakness which keeps pulling me down and down. I am not so sure about the things I do for example I finish my homework but I can’t say it true even if it’s true. But I won’t let that happen, not anymore. It will be better if I trust myself rather than trusting others about my own work and be a better decision maker for my own future.

Many great people said, thinking logically is better than thinking technically and they are absolutely right that’s why they are great people. I need to do the same in order to get achievements and I will. So what should I do to improve it, that’s the real question here and answer would be, by solving logical question, using various technique by reading books, and interact with the people who are good at it.

Finally I don’t think I am too far to get achievement after applying these four key in my life and I am so great full for that.

Skills Attributes & Employment Development

Well I think all four (Study skills for computing, Logic, Introduction to programming, Problem solving for IT) module is essential for my course. Each module has their own part to do which is valuable for my course, so let’s start with Study skills for computing.
Now, the module Study skill for computing is designto develop the academic skills such as writing academic report or blog, give knowledge about presenting their project, and communicate in a better way and preparing for the future with the help of computing or in the computing world.
The module Logic is design for developing logic to solve different problems through mathematical way. It offers you to use different logical gates, truth tables and using vary laws. Student can also develop their logic not only during their course but also for their future in real world.
Introduction to Programming is a very important module for the computing student(like me because its core module)because computing contains a lot of programming (also known as coding) and other programming related topic such as algorithm, flow chart, pseudo code. This time I am about to learn basic java programming but my aim is to be a better software developer (programming is one of the step of developing software) in Nepal.
Problem solving for IT is that module which talks about solving the problems in a better way. It talks about different types of problem like how can we solve the problem whether it’s small or big, simple or hard by following interesting way. For computing (Undergraduate) student, they need to write different program to solve different problems, if they follow the better and quit interesting logic then they are better than any other student who writes same program even if they have master’s degree.
As I said earlier each subject has their own part for my future and I am so happy for that.

Achievement and future plans

Well, like all the other people I also have some achievements and future plans but I am just going to skip all the other things and focus only on academic stuff since I am writing technical blog. My first academic achievement was English language. From my primary level I learned English as my second language and it really helped in my life. And second is computer, when I was in college I got the chance to learn computer like how it operates, how it connected to each other (Hardware and Software) which is really interesting. While I was sniffing around like hardware and software kind of things, I got the chance to know about programming too. Programming is really cool so I wanted to learn more about it and on that way I also learn web programming. But the main part which helped me to achieve all above things is self-confidents. Without self-confidants I cannot imagine even one thing which play very important role in my life.
“People don't get to our ages without having pasts. I'm more interested in the future” (Donald, n.d.). Just like he said I am also more interested in future.  I want to keep studying programming, in other word more advance programming and be able to make websites for different companies or organization or other institution,  get more knowledge about how to plans my projects, employment skills, self-confidants. This is my three years plans after that I want to be able to make application for different operating system. After all these experience, all these work I’ve done I want to establish my own software company in Nepal which produce different kind of software for different operating system, which is cheap and reliable so that I can export it to the foreign country too. And I can feel proud of what I’ve done.
