FIRST SEMESTER: AT A GLANCE

Am I the same person as I was a year ago? I often ask to myself and realize that time has brought a lot of changes in my life. Believing that time has power to change everything I rely upon it and wait until time compels me to make something good happen. Now, as I look back to my life it reflects me the image of a person that I have left far behind. Nevertheless, with deep thoughts I overcame with all my mistakes in past and look forward to nourish my future with hard study, labour and dedication in this semester.
Having a mixed feeling on first day, I tried to act normal hiding my emotions and excitement under my face. In the very first day of my 3rd semester, I was introduced to my core module for this semester. Each and every module was very new to us but rather much more inspiring. Every coursework that we were assigned changed my academic skills from each and every aspect. From the first coursework we were very serious in regarding our performance, so we tried very hard to give all our effort in this coursework. However, some of the coursework assigned to us were very difficult to work them out. Due to high difficulty level, we all students along with our teacher too felt a little tough to understand and complete the coursework.Nonetheless, our hard labour and dedication towards the study and a helpful hand from our teacher, we finally were able to complete all of the allocated coursework within deadline.

The four modules have helped to uplift my skills from basic to intermediate level. The first module, Study Skills for Computing, was a complete source of understanding the writing skills and presentation skills. Also, it helped us to prepare future plan to uplift our career in better way. It showed us the way to achieve our goal in our life by helping us in preparing action plans. Moreover, it gave us an idea of using blogs for sharing our ideas and thoughts to this world. The second module, Introduction to Programming, has helped to gain basic programming skills through Java. In this module, we learnt various aspects of programming, developing logic and writing codes for a program. We also studied about BlueJ application for simplifying the coding, compiling and running process of Java. Moving onto next module, Logic, helped to gain and improve my mathematical skills. This module also aided me to develop logic skills that eventually benefited to create logics for programming. Moreover, it made me understand the basic theorem of mathematics for application in programming sector. Furthermore the last module, Problem Solving for IT, has assisted me to understand and develop a nature of solving various types of problems in a better and comprehensible way. Also, this module has made me to gain basic ideas for using MS-EXCEL and MS-ACCESS. So, this all four modules combined has been a sea of knowledge where my skills, ideas and thoughts all are lifted up in a better and lucid way.

During my semester I came up with many difficulties in dealing with subject matter. I often got confused when new task was assigned to us. However, I frequently asked my module leaders and tutors to deal with problems that I came up with. Their feedbacks have really helped me in clarifying my confusion towards each and every task. Moreover, those feedbacks have built up my confidence level and understand the different ways to tackle a problem. I also understood the importance of team work and contribution of individual team member in the team work for better outcome. So this was a life lesson that I have learnt in this semester.

Summing up, this semester at Islington has helped me to develop my academic skills in studying, presenting as well as sharing my ideas and thoughts clearly. Now, I see myself in a position where my academic skills have been lift up. Now I feel more comfortable in sharing my ideas and expressing feelings. An upgrade in my academic skills has helped my confidence to rise up and this makes academic life at Islington different than in others.
